Who is a Good Candidate for Elderly Care?

As you or your loved ones grow older, your healthcare needs will change. It is important to keep an eye on your loved one’s health needs so that they can continue getting the care they deserve, even when their health changes. couple kissing on the road during daytime

Elderly care refers to assistance provided to senior citizens who may have trouble performing basic tasks day to day.

Elders who may need elderly care include those who have trouble with:

Bathing and Hygiene

Bathing and basic hygiene are key to better physical and mental health, especially for seniors. Unfortunately, mobility can grow limited in later years, making even the act of showering or brushing your teeth difficult.

If your loved one has trouble maintaining basic hygiene, they may need elderly care.

Transportation

In some cases, driving is not safe or even allowed for older individuals. With diminishing eyesight and motor skills, driving can be deadly both for the driver and other people on the road. Part of elderly care can often help with transportation or transportation costs so that the senior can run errands, go to the doctor’s office, etc.

Eating

Eating can be difficult for seniors for multiple reasons, such as issues with motor functions, traveling to purchase healthy foods and changes in diet due to health or medications. Elderly care can help provide nutrition assistance such as a caregiver offering daily meal plans and access to programs.

Mobility

Basic mobility such as walking or operating a wheelchair can cause issues for seniors, in which case they will need assistance getting around. An elderly care facility or at home caretaker can help with getting around.

Medication

Many seniors take medications on a daily or weekly basis and often more than one. It can be hard, especially for those with memory issues, to remember the schedule for taking each medication or the right dosages for each. An elderly care provider can help maintain a medication schedule to ensure that you take your medication on time and at the right dose.

If you are not sure whether you or a loved one is in need of elderly care, speak with a caregiving professional. They can help you determine you and your loved ones’ needs. After all, not everyone has time to provide around the clock care to their loved ones as much as they would like to.

If your loved one has any trouble doing the above, consider elderly care.
